Back in early 2017, my musical cohort, Terry (Trecento, Dead Lizard Grin) reached out to me in regards to contributing a piece for Piano Day, an annual celebration of the piano! Piano Day is celebrated on the 88th day of every year (88 keys on the piano! GET IT?!?! HA!)
I had been in a "pseudo-retirement" state having stopped playing keys with the local improvisational comedy club every weekend and work was being a bear. Suffice to say, it had been about eight or nine years since I had even touched a keyboard. But, I agreed.
What you hear here, was done in one morning in just a few takes. My wife says this is one of her favorite pieces that I've ever done. I remain forever critical due to the many cobwebs haunting my fingers. Regardless, this was the piece which got it all started again...
In regards to the song description, I'll borrow that from Terry's bandcamp site where this song was originally published on Piano Day in 2017:
"There is a little piece of heaven tucked between two mountains in Yellow River State Forest. As morning light breaks the horizon for the world above, the campground nestled in the tight valley crevasse remains a muted pallet of dark greens and grays. The sounds of nature waking for another day have a heavy, wet blanket on them. Fog dances carelessly in the trees, unaware that its life will soon be over once the sun is able to break over the eastern peak. But those moments before are as magical, tranquil, and peaceful as I have ever experienced. Free from the bounds of responsibility, schedule, technology, and the noise that we call 'life'."
